The General. In 1987, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Ray-Ban sunglasses, Bausch & Lomb USA released a special limited sunglass. THE GENERAL. Inspired by the classic styling of Large Metal "aviator" sunglass, The General features a bold look that commands attention. Arista 24KT plating finishes are accentuated by the thicker eyewire and temples. RB-50 lenses provide full control over glare and ultraviolate radiation. The "General" has thicker arms/legs than your average Ray-Ban metals. And, contrary to popular belief, The General was not only produced in 1987. The General, celebrating B&L's 50th Anniversary, was so popular with consumers and so much in demand that, Ray-Ban decided to continue production of The General each year in limited release, up until early-to-mid 90's. So there are different versions of The General, different fonts, different sunglass cases, considered a specialty line to commemorate 50 years of Bausch & Lomb
